as i was waiting, i saw a teacher from the school that i once studied(last year)
teacher C was crossing the road from my former school to school x
apparently to meet his daughter who happens to be in the same class as my sister
teacher C was wearing a red coloured shirt with flower prints on them(batik)
now, why is this described as an unholy site you ask?? wait...you need to hear the
history of teacher C; mainly the things teacher C has done to me(i have no idea how
many others teacher C has done this to)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
to begin, it was the first day of class in form 6, and teacher C was assingned to
teach my class chemistry(my favourite subject!!)
teacher C came into the classroom and started speaking about teacher C's
the right word...let's see..i think its do's and don'ts in teacher C's class...
ok..so..all of us listened to teacher C's lecture about do's and don't during
chemistry classes and procedures on handing in homework as well as assingments
yup...it took at least 10 minutes for the "lecture" to end *yawn*
then...teacher C jumped to a very suprising topic..
suprising because it was very unrelated to chemistry
teacher C asked every one of us on our ancestors' origins in India
PS:teacher C only asked the Indian students in my class and teacher C is also indian
teacher C only did not ask me and my other classmate(who was a christian boy) this
silly question
teacher C then asked the boy sitting in the last row of his origins
i will now include the actual conversation between teacher C and the boy
how i remember this you ask??because i wrote down the exact words in my notebook
for further actions on this matter as i find this issue very sensitive
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
conversation as in the notebook
teacher C : and you boy??
boy: uhmmm...i dunno sir..madurey(india's fast growing town) i guesss..
teacher C:madurey ah??nolah...gounder all not from madurey
boy:~smile~
here's an article from wikipedia explaining what a gounder is
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gounder
now for my point,
this teacher C recognises students by not just mere
names but by
his or her caste
teacher C treats students from a higher caste differently compared to students
who are from a lower caste
this can be seen clearly in several situations that happened to me
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
situation #1
it was a usual chemistry lesson that day and teacher C was as usual quizzing us..
soon it was my turn to stand up and answer his questions about the topic.
i of course always do my homework beforehand and am always prepared in his classes
this is the exact conversation that took place that day
conversation #1
teacher C:yes yasini, 3.2(b)
me:because in aniline, the NH2(subscript 2) group donates electrons to the benzene ring.hence, hydrogens are easily donates.therefore, it is a weaker base than ammonia
teacher C:where got such answer?????!!!!
(then he was just saying something about benzene..which i did not understand as it contradicted with the previous answering method that he had thaught)
me:sir, i cannot understand..can you please explain to me again??
teacher C:*laugh* what was i explaining from just now then?? (in an angry tone) girl s answer the question!!
girl s(also my classmate) :*exactly what i said*
ps:she copied my work before the lesson
teacher C: correct!!!
me:*astonished*in my mind:she just repeated my answer..and when i say it its wrong
but when she says it its right..
so, the next day, i brought my mom to school and went to ask him why he had done
that and what is the correct answer...
he explained and also mentioned that this girl S's answer is wrong(really??)
ps:girl S is from a higher caste than i am, since teacher C generally
discriminates students of lower caste origins, he did not intend to scold or
embarass girl s when she repeated my answer(that she copied from me)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
situation #2
this happened rather recently..to be exact the date was 16.11.2011
it was a usual wednesday morning in school
on wednesdays we had double chemistry periods where we usually discussed past
year exam papers as well as trial papers from other states in order to
familiarise ourselves with STPM type questions as the exam was just around
the corner (to be exact the exam was the following week!!!)
well, as usual, teacher C walked into the class promtly (he is never late) with
an unwelcoming expression on his face
ps:he never came into the class ever with a smile..it is always an unpleasant look
as the class monitor, my task was to lead the class into the daily ritual of
wishing him good morning..(as though we were kindergarteners)
once the "respecting him" ritual is over, the lesson begun
we were discussing the Kedah 2011 STPM trial paper which we all did beforehand
and that wednesday was the day we discussed our answers and as well as
clariffied our doubts
as always, we had to take turns reading out our answers and teacher C would
pin-point our mistakes and attempt to correct them in hope that we would not
repeat the same mistake in the actual exam that was just around the corner..
then, it came to a question where we were required to sketch a graph of the
negative deviation concept from Raoult's law
teacher C called my classmate, a girl whom i prefer to call in this blog as girl J
this girl J proudly walked up to the white board and stater sketching her
"correct" graph....she was completely unaware of the mistake she made in
sketching the graph as the graph that she sketched was not at all that that was
required by the question itself...
however, teacher C did not particularly seem irritated with her wrong sketching
and proceeded to ask her to take her seat
PS:teacher C and girl J are of the same caste
then, teacher C called girl S to attempt the graph sketching
girl S walked up to the white board rather hessitant as she had not completed her
homework ....
she then admitted this fact to teacher C and he then gestured her to take her seat
teacher C then started pacing the classroom, making sure to stop at each of our
desks to check our sketched graph...at my desk however, the situation was
somewhat different...
teacher C took one look at my graph and instructed me to go up to the white
board and sketch it for the entire class to see...
i did as i was instructed and took my seat once i finished my sketch and was
satisfied with it
then...(here comes the interesting part)..i will now include the exact
conversation that took place on the 16th on november 2011
conversation #2
teacher C:very good!!!(sarcasm) you draw this in STPM you'll get 0 marks!!
me:*just silent*
teacher C:what is this??(pointing at my sketching on the white board)
you're trying to draw your ******** ah???
me:*angry but just remained silent, then i went forward to attempt to correct the
graph*
entire class:*laughing out loud*
i felt so embarassed at the situation but i remained calm and did not fight back.,
yes i was angry with what teacher C had said to me but it would not have been
wise to yell back at teacher C as i believe that teacher C was someone who did
not deserve any form of respect after hearing the words he had uttered to me
so, the following day, i brought my mom to school with an official letter
lodging a complaint on teacher C
the letter was then handed over to the student's affairs teacher who was
very cooperative and at the same time angry and yearning to take
action on teacher C..he assured us that he would speak about the matter to the
school principal immediately and call for an action be taken on teacher C
on 18th November 2011, the principal had called me to his office to express his
sincere gratitude on my parents' awareness in such matter as well as to
inform me about the action he had taken on teacher C and the future undertakings
that he would perform in order to avoid such situations anywhere in the future
however, to me...i still want a verdict...and of course i will seek justice
an eye for an eye they say
